Watkins Glen State Park

Watkins Glen State Park is the landscape that gives many journeys to the village their purpose. Its gorge route follows a stream through a sequence of waterfalls, rock walls and passages close to the water. The experience is a walk within the landform, distinct from simply stopping at an overlook beside a road.

The Gorge Trail has a seasonal calendar. A park alert posted on September 25 announces closure on October 25, 2026. The broader park and rim trails have different operating arrangements, so an open park does not necessarily mean access to the waterfall route. Check the current trail notice when setting travel dates.

There is also a verified change to the entrance infrastructure. The replacement Sentry Bridge opened to the public on July 2, 2026, according to the contractor’s project announcement, with completion also confirmed by the project engineers. Older notices describing construction from 2025 should not be used alone to characterize the present entrance.

Choose the entrance and walking plan before arriving. The route includes steps and wet conditions, and the seasonal shuttle between entrances follows its own calendar. The published 2026 pool season ended on September 7. For an autumn visit, the gorge and the surrounding landscape are the relevant focus, with the walk matched to conditions and the group’s mobility.
