Thomasville History Center

Thomasville History Center makes the town’s history tangible through exhibits and a campus of historic structures. Its three-acre setting includes seven buildings, allowing the visitor to connect objects and photographs with the spaces in which local life unfolded. The experience extends beyond a single display room into a varied outdoor-and-interior route.

Self-guided admission includes the Joiner-Callaway House, bowling alley, Smith Homestead, Roberts Garage, Flowers Playhouse and Metcalfe Courthouse. An introductory film provides orientation and is available in English with subtitles and in Spanish. The official municipal history dates the private bowling alley to 1896; that detail makes the modest building a useful counterpoint to grand-house architecture.

The 2026 admission page distinguishes the History Center, the separately addressed Lapham-Patterson House and a Journey Pass covering both. A ticket to the center is not automatically a guided visit to the other house. Groups of ten or more must arrange visits at least one week ahead; staff availability affects special talks and guided arrangements.

Regular opening is Monday through Saturday, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., with Sunday and major-holiday closures. Additional closures and adjusted hours are announced on the visit page.
