Discovery Park

Discovery Park brings forest, meadow, sea cliffs and Puget Sound shoreline into a Seattle outing. Its variety rewards choosing a route before arrival: a short walk through the upper park and a descent toward the beach demand different amounts of effort. Posted closures and fences matter, and a photograph of the lighthouse does not establish an accessible route to it.

The park's official address is 3801 Discovery Park Boulevard. East, north and south parking areas serve different approaches. General park hours are 4:30 a.m.–11 p.m., but individual facilities and transportation have shorter operating schedules. The published number 206-684-4075 is a Seattle Parks contact rather than confirmation of a staffed visitor-center desk.

An important current restriction is the visitor center's closure after a broken water main caused flooding in early 2025. The city projects closure until summer 2027 while building systems are repaired; that projection is not a guaranteed reopening date. The park remains open. Beach parking permits are not being issued during the closure, and beach parking is restricted to vehicles displaying ADA placards.

The current fall 2026 shuttle operates Thursday–Sunday, 11 a.m.–5 p.m., through November 1, approximately every 45 minutes, with the last beach departure at 4:45 p.m. Strollers and service animals are allowed; pets and bulky recreational equipment are excluded.
