Forest Park

Forest Park gives Portland residents access to woodland walking without treating every outing as a single standard route. The municipal guide describes more than 80 miles of trails and over 40 access points. An entrance close to one home may lead to a very different walk from another entrance. Choose a named trailhead and a manageable return route before leaving, rather than navigating only to the general park label.

Published park hours are 5 a.m.–10 p.m. daily. Trails are for pedestrians, with cycling and equestrian use restricted to designated routes; dogs must remain leashed. Fires, camping, drones and motorized vehicles are prohibited. Its city-listed phone, 503-823-4492, is a Nature West management contact, also displayed on the main Google listing, rather than a continuously staffed visitor-center desk.

The entrance project near NW St. Helens Road and NW Kittridge Avenue has a parking area that the project page says is locked at 6 p.m. That differs from the park's closing time. The short trail there includes steep grades, so accessible parking does not establish that the entire walk is wheelchair accessible. A proposed nature center belongs to a future phase with a timeline to be determined; it is not described as an operating facility.

Current municipal notices close the Ridge Trail parking area on NW Bridge Avenue indefinitely and prohibit use of the Wildwood bridge at mile 15.2, where a stepped bypass is identified.
