Bucks County Playhouse

Bucks County Playhouse connects two chapters of New Hope's history in one waterfront building. Before becoming a theater, the site served as a gristmill; Benjamin Parry rebuilt the mill in 1790. The theater opened on July 1, 1939, after efforts to save the property from demolition, bringing a new cultural use to an older industrial address.

That history is best encountered through the venue's continuing work. The Playhouse produces professional theater and supports arts education and community programs. Its historical association with summer theater remains significant, but visitors should use the current calendar: the published 2026 program extends into autumn and the holiday season.

A performance gives the visit a defined focus beyond viewing the exterior. Choosing a production, date and seat is more useful than assuming the building operates as a museum with continuous public access. Theater history, contemporary programming and the Delaware River setting meet here, but each visit depends on what the company is presenting.
