Lititz Historical Foundation

Lititz Historical Foundation offers a way to read the town beyond its shops and food traditions. Established by local residents in 1961, the nonprofit preserves collections and buildings that explain the community's development, particularly its Moravian heritage. Its work combines a museum, a historic house and gardens on East Main Street.

The Lititz Museum occupies the Christian Schropp house, dating to 1793. Exhibits and a historical timeline trace local change, while objects such as decorative manuscripts and needlework introduce material culture. The museum is self-guided, with admission by donation, allowing visitors to give more attention to the subjects that interest them.

Next door, the Johannes Mueller House provides a different format. A docent leads visitors through the 1792 home to discuss the everyday life of an eighteenth-century tradesman and family in the Moravian settlement. The guided house tour has its own admission arrangements and should not be confused with simply entering the museum.

Behind the buildings, Mary Oehme Gardens extend the visit into a landscaped setting with heritage and water-garden elements. The grounds also serve events, making access on a particular date worth checking. The foundation's published operating information lists year-round weekday and Saturday service. Together, these components let visitors move between an overview of Lititz and the smaller scale of household life, rather than reducing its history to a single founding date.
