Red Barn Studio Museum

Red Barn Studio Museum approaches art through the spaces and objects of a working life. Lester Raymer’s paintings and prints share attention with ceramics, metalwork, woodcarving and other forms of craftsmanship. The studio became a public museum in 1997, preserving a body of work that crossed the usual boundaries between fine art, useful objects and personal gifts.

Materials are an important part of that story. Raymer frequently transformed discarded objects into new work, including elements of the studio itself. Toys and other Christmas presents made for his wife, Ramona, reveal a more intimate aspect of his practice. A visit rewards attention to individual details: how an everyday object was reworked, or how the same maker approached a painting and a small decorative piece.

The museum provides guided tours during its regular opening hours. Its artist residency program adds a contemporary dimension, although meeting a resident depends on the program and the artist’s availability. Rodger Gerberding’s announced 2026 residency runs from September 22 to October 9, with visitors invited to see work in progress. Normal public hours are Tuesday through Friday, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., and weekends, 1 to 5 p.m.; Monday is closed. The current homepage requests a suggested donation for the guided visit.
