The Campus Theatre

The Campus Theatre keeps a historic cinema in active use on Lewisburg's Market Street. Designed by architect David Supowitz and built by the Stiefel brothers, it opened on January 17, 1941. The single-screen Art Deco building makes the act of going to a film part of the town's architectural experience.

Its nonprofit operation combines popular, independent and art cinema with special events. Bucknell course screenings are advertised as free and open to the public, making the university's film culture accessible beyond the campus community. Other screenings and events have their own admission terms, so the individual calendar entry is the relevant reference.

The September–October 2026 program includes the Manhattan Short Film Festival on October 4 and Home Movie Day on October 17. The latter is announced as a free community event from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., inviting visitors to bring reels and tapes. These dated events illustrate the breadth of programming; they should not be treated as permanent weekly fixtures.

Doors usually open thirty minutes before a screening, and the theatre says films begin at the advertised time without trailers afterward. Arriving early therefore serves both a practical purpose and the chance to appreciate the interior. A drop-off area is located directly in front, with metered street and nearby lot parking described in the visitor information. Ask staff about seating and any specific access requirements before attending. Membership supports the theatre but is not required for ordinary public events.
