Red Rock Canyon National Conservation Area

Red Rock Canyon National Conservation Area brings sandstone cliffs, desert interpretation and a scenic road within reach of the Las Vegas Valley. It is a federal conservation area west of the city, not a municipal Las Vegas park. The Bureau of Land Management identifies State Route 159 as the approach and recommends navigating to the visitor center or 3205 State Highway 159. Its main information line is 702-515-5350.

The 13-mile paved Scenic Drive runs one way and links overlooks, parking areas and trail approaches. Choosing the drive allows a scenery-focused outing, but stopping places and hiking routes still need their own assessment. BLM does not consider the designated Scenic Drive trails accessible to strollers or standard mobility devices; the visitor center and some other facilities have separate accessibility features. Do not turn accessible parking into a promise about every trail.

Seasonal hours are 6 a.m.–8 p.m. April–September, 6 a.m.–7 p.m. in March and October, and 6 a.m.–5 p.m. November–February. Thanksgiving and Christmas have a noon closing. The visitor center ordinarily opens 8 a.m.–4:30 p.m., with separate holiday hours. Between October 1 and May 31, entries to the Scenic Drive from 8 a.m.–5 p.m. require a timed reservation through Recreation.gov, in addition to applicable admission conditions.

BLM states that public transportation does not extend to the conservation area. Arrange the outward and return journey rather than expecting an urban bus stop at the trailhead.
