Baba’s Pantry

A Palestinian American family kitchen where stuffed falafel, house-made hummus and shawarma carry the Pantry’s story of tradition and adaptation.

About Baba’s Pantry

Baba’s Pantry tells a Palestinian American story through food that remains close to everyday eating. The family opened the Pantry in 2021, after years of introducing its hummus to the Kansas City community. The business describes its cooking as rooted in Palestinian tradition and shaped by life in the diaspora. That combination gives a small café and pantry the substance of a destination, without turning it into a formal restaurant experience.

The stuffed falafel is a particularly useful introduction. Inside the chickpea preparation are onions, parsley and sumac, with tahini alongside. Hummus and roasted-eggplant spread are made in house, and the menu lets diners add pickles, shatta or garlic sauce to a sandwich. These details reveal a kitchen where the accompaniments are part of the argument, not decoration around the main ingredient.

Chicken shawarma and a beef-and-lamb kebab provide meat options; a seasoned jackfruit shawarma creates a separate path for someone avoiding meat. Fattoush adds fried pita and pomegranate molasses, while cardamom coffee and walnut baklawa extend the meal beyond a sandwich. Bon Appétit included Baba’s Pantry among its ten best new restaurants in 2022, a historical recognition of a place whose appeal remains understandable from the menu itself. Choose it for a casual meal with a distinct family and cultural identity, especially when a carefully assembled sandwich matters more than the ceremony of a long dinner.
