Boscobel House and Gardens

Boscobel House and Gardens combines architecture, decorative arts and a wide Hudson River outlook in Garrison, just outside Cold Spring. The house was originally built between 1804 and 1808, then saved in fragments and reassembled farther north during a twentieth-century preservation effort. Its present setting looks across Constitution Marsh toward West Point.

The grounds offer gardens, a woodland trail and places to appreciate that landscape without making an interior tour the only purpose of the visit. Grounds admission and guided house admission are distinct choices, with the latter including access to the grounds. All visitors check in at the Visitor Center.

The interior experience needs a current explanation. Following a ceiling collapse in 2024 and emergency work, the house reopened for visits during restoration. The present visitor page advertises Insider tours, while the restoration account explains that conservation continues. Expect a house whose restoration is part of the interpretation, rather than assume every room and object has returned to an earlier arrangement.

Boscobel advises against walking from Cold Spring along Route 9D because of fast traffic and limited sidewalks. Arrange a transfer and confirm any seasonal trolley service. Garden paths and house access also differ in accessibility; discuss the intended tour with staff when necessary. The destination is particularly rewarding for travelers interested in design, preservation and the Hudson landscape together.
