Little River Canyon National Preserve

Little River Canyon National Preserve protects the river landscape running across Lookout Mountain. The National Park Service describes overlooks and waterfalls along Canyon Rim Parkway, trails leading toward the river and 23 miles of unpaved backcountry roads. The scenic road is not one single overlook; each stop has its own access and conditions.

The preserve rewards a landscape-focused visit, but no waterfall or trail should be presented as guaranteed open at all times. The 2026 operating page says overlooks, trails and scenic roads are open from sunrise to sunset. The NPS may temporarily close areas for safety, construction or natural conditions. Canyon Mouth has seasonal hours and a per-vehicle fee; it is a separate facility from the scenic corridor.
