Eufaula National Wildlife Refuge

Eufaula National Wildlife Refuge protects wetlands, croplands, woods, grasslands and open water around the Chattahoochee River. The U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service says its habitat mosaic supports nearly 300 bird species and dozens of mammals. This is a conservation and wildlife-viewing area, not an attraction with guaranteed sightings. Season, conditions and animal behavior shape what visitors may see.

The Service’s general brochure lists an approximately seven-mile vehicle route, two observation platforms and a walking trail of about one-third of a mile, for daytime use. Refuge headquarters is north of town and is not a visitor center staffed on weekends. The current auto tour has its own visitor information and may be affected by habitat management or closures; check official alerts.

FWS publishes 367 Highway 165 and phone 334-687-4065. The 2026–2027 hunting regulations are now available, relevant to those activities and to sector closures; that does not mean hunting is part of an ordinary visit. Follow signs, access limits and wildlife-viewing rules. From central Eufaula, the refuge requires a separate drive.
