Boot Hill Museum

Boot Hill Museum interprets Dodge City through objects, documents, reconstructed streets and performance. Founded in 1947, the nonprofit institution holds more than sixty thousand objects, photographs and documents, with a particular focus on the city from the 1870s through the 1920s. These collections provide evidence behind a place often encountered first through Western entertainment.

Front Street is a reconstruction whose development began in 1958. Recognizing that distinction helps visitors appreciate the setting without mistaking it for an intact nineteenth-century commercial street. Original material from residents and the former Beeson Museum sits within a broader interpretive complex.

The museum’s recent building work is already part of its history: its own account dates new interactive exhibitions and the Mariah Gallery to the 2020 expansion. That should not be presented as a new opening in 2026. Current visitor planning instead turns on the calendar and the difference between general admission and performance packages.

The museum operates year-round with seasonal hours and specified holiday closures. Its published 2026 Marshal Pass dates extend through September 26; later visitors should confirm any additional show arrangements rather than expect the summer program. The collection visit remains a distinct option, allowing the history to be explored without making a performance the condition of the journey.
