Alabama Aquarium at Dauphin Island Sea Lab

Alabama Aquarium at Dauphin Island Sea Lab introduces the living systems around the island. Older travel pages call it the Estuarium; the institution now uses Alabama Aquarium. Its interpretation follows four habitats: the Mobile–Tensaw Delta, Mobile Bay, barrier islands and the northern Gulf. This gives a visitor a framework for understanding the waters crossed on arrival.

Interactive exhibits and living displays connect that geography with marine life. The outdoor feeding is published daily at 2 p.m.; indoor feeding is scheduled at 11 a.m. on Saturdays and Sundays. These are specific program times, not a guarantee that every tank is fed whenever someone visits.

The aquarium opens daily from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., with last ticket sales at 4 p.m. Closures include Easter Sunday, Thanksgiving, December 24–25 and 31, and January 1. Children younger than fourteen require an accompanying adult. Pets are excluded, while qualifying service dogs are allowed.

Sea Lab field excursions operate through separate reservations. The 2026 education calendar includes research-vessel trips on October 9 and 12 and a salt-marsh outing on October 13. Vessel trips require a minimum age of eight, an accompanying adult for minors and closed-toe, closed-heel footwear; weather and participation conditions apply. Ordinary aquarium admission does not include these trips. Choose either an exhibit visit or a booked field program according to the experience wanted.
