About Swannanoa Valley Museum & History Center
Swannanoa Valley Museum & History Center has preserved and interpreted the valley's history since 1989. Its West State Street home is Black Mountain's former fire station. Both the building and the museum's work connect the town center with a wider territory and its communities.
The institution develops exhibitions, collects historical material and maintains public programs about valley communities, families and activities. Its work extends beyond the galleries through hikes, tours and talks that interpret the landscape through history. This broader approach gives visitors reasons to consider the museum before heading into the surrounding mountains.
Outings have their own difficulty, duration and reservation arrangements. Museum admission does not provide a place on a hike, and an outing scheduled for one date is not a daily service.
